How Whitepagers Celebrate the Holiday Season

During this time of year, it is common to get together with loved ones, enjoy the winter weather, and celebrate the holidays. We asked some of our Whitepagers about their own celebrations. Here is what they shared:

Ryaire:

“My family and I always have Christmas dinner at my mom’s house. It usually starts out all so well, that is until…the Macaroni and Cheese dish comes out. We rotate who makes the mac ‘n cheese every year, and every year, it’s never quite good enough for anyone except for the person who made it! My sister typically adds odd ingredients like smoked salmon and capers, my niece’s version is usually dry, and mine…well mine is always the best but no one wants to admit to it.”

Kaiwen:

“My parents are coming from China to the US to visit me during the holidays. We are going to have fun at Seattle, Las Vegas, and Southern California. This will be our first family reunion in the US! So excited!”

Rebecca:

“My boyfriend and I do two Christmas celebrations: Christmas morning we celebrate “American” Christmas with the family on Whidbey Island. We’ll open a few gifts, hang out, and drink eggnog. Then we’ll go home and do “Swedish” Christmas with a great, big smorgasbord of Swedish meatballs, ham, five different kinds of pickled fish and other things only a Swede will eat before we tear into the gifts under the tree.”

Max:

“Every year on Christmas Day my wife’s entire family converges on her grandparent’s house, in Everett, WA. It’s the only time of year that all 40 of us (four generations) are under the same roof. It’s awesome – there’s fun, laughter, gifts, chaos, and a LOT of food. We look forward to it all year!”

Mike:

“On my side of the family, my parents originally immigrated from Poland, so we continue the traditions they had back then. We spend most of the day preparing a 6-8 course dinner for the eve of the 24th. This includes red borscht, several kinds of pierogi, bigoskutiachrusciki, and usually some sort of salmon. We have dinner, open presents, and enjoy each other’s company.”

Prav:

“I’ll be going back to New Jersey for the holidays to spend time with family and old friends. For New Year’s Eve, I’ll be hanging out with my friends in Hoboken which I’m looking forward to! After that, I’ll be visiting my friend my Miami that I’ve been meaning to do for a while.”

Whether you celebrate with family, friends, food, or winter fun:
We wish you and your loved ones a lovely holiday and a Happy New Year!
